The Saxons were invited to colonize the area by the king of Hungary in 1200s. They were offered free land and titles in exchange for the protection of the frontier. |

| Saxons lived in Transylvania for centuries. After World War II, the Soviets punished them for helping Germany by sending all males 15-45 years old to Siberia. Almost all the rest of them emigrated to Germany after that. |
